The Beginnings of the Flacius Memorial Collection
In 1975 the Museum signed contracts with several construction firms for the creation of the memorial collection, at the cost of 298,387.55 dinars, from which 100,000.00 had been secured by the National Interest Group for Self-Government in the Area of Culture.
The following companies worked on the project: Construction Company “Jadran” from Rijeka, OOUR «Učka» Labin, Plomin Luka Carpenters, Milevoj Anton Carpenters, TPS «2. mart» Labin, «Elektra» Labin.

The Beginnings of the Flacius Memorial Collection
The Labin Municipal Assembly bought the former Francovich Palace in 1968, in which it planned to house the Flacius Memorial Collection. The building was chosen for a reason: Flacius’ father, Andrija (Andreas) used two family names – Franković (Francovich) and Vlačić (Vlacich).
In 1969 the municipality began a thorough renovation of the building: the only original parts remaining were the walls, while the internal structures and the roof were rebuilt. The reconstruction of the building was done on the basis of plans by the company “Rijeka-projekt” from Rijeka.

The Beginnings of the Flacius Memorial Collection

The Labin Municipal Assembly entrusted the sculptor Mate Čvrljak with making a stone statue of Matthias Flacius Illyricus, which he completed between 1967 and 1970.

The statue was placed in Podlabin (Lower Labin), next to the chapel of Saints Cosmos and Damian and not far from the “Matthias Flacius Illyricus” Elementary School.
